If you live in the PNW like myself, the winter time is rough. Rain, cold temperatures, limited day light. As a personal trainer, we see a huge shift in everyone’s mindset and habits during this time. It might be our slowest time, but our busiest time trying to motivate clients to sticking to their habits. Holidays come around, sugar and goodies everywhere, temptation, the bed feels warm, you name it. I am here to give you tips and tricks as a personal trainer and individual on how I make it through the gloomy winter days.

  • Walking
    • Walking is one of the most underrated forms of exercise and ways to raise your endorphins. Getting outside for 30 minutes of air, sunshine, rain, it matters. Grab that jacket, grab the raincoat, and GO! I tell all my clients here at Full Force Fitness at least 8,000 steps a day. 10,000? Even better. If you can’t get to the gym.. WALK. Rest day? WALK.
  • Find a workout routine
    • Finding a workout routine you like and can stick with is crucial. Here at Full Force Fitness I require all my clients to schedule their workouts. If you schedule it, you are more likely to commit, and kill it! If you do not, it is easy to slack off. We need to get your blood moving, body moving, and lift some heavy weights! Taking a fitness class here at Full Force Fitness is perfect. It is short, to the point, burn at least 300 calories, and you will feel so much better.
  • Monitor your diet
    • I get it. The holidays are here, sugar everywhere, temptations everywhere, parties, you name it. But that isn’t a reason to go wild. The more sugar you consume, the more you will crave. I am all about moderation, but you have to be mindful of what you are consuming because it does affect your mood, sleep, energy, you name it. Eating a diet that is high in protein, nutrient dense food, will help you feel fuller, not crave as much sugar, and make you feel better. A cookie is good once in a while, but eating 5 or more, you will instantly regret it.
  • Increase vitamin D
    • The sun is gone. We NEED vitamin D. It is time to increase your liquid vitamin D, C, magnesium, you name it. It might seem tedious, but trust me, it will help.
  • Find a community.
    • Here at Full Force Fitness I pride myself on the community we have built within my fitness class, bootcamp, small group, everything. My clients look forward to seeing each other daily. We care, and we want you to succeed.

This is the time of year you have to listen to your body and give it what it needs. This happens every year.. eventually you have to shift your mindset.

You can do it!
