The holidays are NOT a reason to say ‘screw it’. I tell a lot of my clients here at Full Force Fitness that you can enjoy the holidays without going overboard. I know, growing up, we had to be apart of the ‘clean plate club’. Well guess what? You don’t have to.
Below I am going to give you my top tips and tricks as a personal trainer and nutritionist for Thanksgiving.
- You do not have to clean your plate. Eat until you are 80% full. NOT uncomfortable.
- Fill your plate up with protein first. Then add vegetables, then add the things you want. We should follow the 80/20 rule. 80% of foods you need, like veggies and protein, and 20% of what we want. Stuffing, mashed potatoes, etc. That way you are getting the best of both worlds.
- Go for a walk post meal. Turn that food into energy, let it digest, and get some fresh air. It makes the difference!
- Workout the morning of. Start your morning off right with some sort of exercise. Doing that means you are 90% more likely to make better decisions throughout the day. You can even come into Full Force Fitness and take a bootcamp class and donate to charity at the same time!
- Eat a HIGH protein breakfast. Fill up on lots of protein, so you can save your carbs and fats for dinner/lunch.
- Limit your grazing. If you graze, be mindful, not mindless.
- Enjoy yourself. Remember there is a balance to it all. If you starve yourself all day and wait until the ‘big meal; you are more likely to over do it.
